Sasol Supply Chain has once again become the focus of a new wave of phishing and procurement related scams. These typically take the form of requests for quotations (RFQs) or similar purchase requests.
  
The Modus Operandi
These fraudsters pose as Sasol employees or as companies mandated on Sasol’s behalf, and send you a request to tender for the supply of certain goods.  In most instances, the product that you will be asked to supply is so specific that if you were to search for it, you would find that it can only be procured from one ‘unique’ supplier.  This unique supplier will then request payment from you upfront; but after having paid, they never supply the goods to you.
 
Fraudsters may also pose as Sasol employees who are mandated to establish a credit line with you in order to purchase products on credit. The request is usually accompanied by a short history of Sasol as well as supporting documents. However, once the credit is granted and products ordered and delivered, subsequent payment of the product is not made.
 
As stipulated in previously, it is very IMPORTANT to note the following:
 
  • Sasol will only contact you from a Sasol email address (name.surname@sasol.com), never sasolsgroupsa or a Gmail or Yahoo or any other generic mailbox address, nor will we ask you to submit information to such an address. Please be cognisant of email addresses with additional letters added to the domain for example @sasols.com which is not a Sasol domain.
  • Sasol will not ask you to send personal banking information via email, nor will we ask you to deposit money through Retail outlets via Mobile Money Service on a cellular account number, i.e.  063 894 6813.
  • Sasol will not request you to pay any fees in order to become a Sasol supplier or to participate in the RFQ/ Bid.
